![]() ![]() ![]() You can also purchase the upgraded board from here. ![]() You can find some information here on how to swap out your K40 control board and upgrade it to a LightBurn-compatible controller. In order to run your K40 with LightBurn, you will need to swap out the controller and do some workarounds. The possibilities with LightBurn are much more diverse, and allow for more capabilities when it comes to design creation and editing. If you do choose to upgrade your K40 laser engraver, LightBurn is the way to go. It is practical for hobby and business use and allows for in depth designing, instead of needing to design in an alternative software and import it just to engrave and cut. LightBurn is the industry standard when it comes to laser cutting software and is the main software of use on OMTech’s mid-range and high power models (50W all the way up to the 150W). While I do not personally own a K40, I am impressed that the Mac software seems very straightforward and easy to use and integrates with Inkscape. The interface has the essential alignment controls along with some base settings which are dependent on a raster engrave, vector engrave or vector cut. K40 Whisperer is a user-friendly K40 laser engraver software that allows you to bring in raster or vector graphics and set them up for engraving and/or cutting. One of the added benefits of a membership based platform is you get the updates as they roll out, and many companies are going the route of membership based platforms. Inkscape is a free-to-use software and would be a good option if budget is an issue.ĬorelDRAW is on the pricier side, but it is a dedicated design software that offers either an annual plan or a one-time purchase which could set you back anywhere from $249.00 (membership yearly) to $449.00 (one-time). The integration with Inkscape allows you to take your designs and/or export them as vectors into LaserDRW where you can then send the file to your K40 laser engraver. It offers some basic editing and designing and is a Windows-only based software. There are integrations available for both Inkscape and CorelDRAW at this point in time. LaserDRW is the standard software that is distributed with K40 laser engraver machines and can be used as a stand alone application or an integration. This is especially true if you’re running your k40 laser at volume for business purposes. This is a little bit more work, but for the capabilities LightBurn offers, it would be well worth it in the long run to streamline productivity and workflow. Just be aware, it does ask for Inkscape to be installed!Īt the moment, these machines are not compatible with LightBurn unless you upgrade your controller and modify your machine. You might run into some issues if you are trying to use a Mac, however there are some workarounds that might help! You can run a virtual machine or even check out this awesome Github that allows you to run k40 Whisperer on a Mac. OMTech’s K40/40W Desktop laser engravers are equipped with LaserDRW software, although there is an option for K40 Whisperer. Keep in mind the website seems to go down from time to time, so if you cannot log on- wait an hour or so and refresh. You can find more information on both of the programs from the Scorchworks website. Both of these integrate with Inkscape and are free laser engraver software packages. The laser is very good at making solid dark lines and marks, but I'd like to space out the pinpoints that it makes further apart so that there are less firings per line and less lines overall in the image, speeding up the process but also lowering the accuracy.LaserDRW and K40 Whisperer are the top two K40 laser software programs available today. Is there a way to space the firing of the laser to a lower resolution? I don't mean resizing the image itself. Right now it is at the lowest it can be and it still burns fairly dark marks into the wood I'm using. Is there a way to adjust the amount of power the laser uses for the image with the software? I'm aware of the dial on the machine. Is there any way to use a vector file with this software so that the laser, instead of sweeping back and forth horizontally, follows the path laid out by the image? (for example: drawing the square instead of working its way down doing one dot at a time on each of the left and right sides of the square) Is there a software manual anywhere for either LaserDRW or Coreldraw? I have gotten it to work, but I am here because I have a series of problems that I haven't been able to fix with it. (feel free to ask any questions about them here, as there do not seem to be any good google results for either) Hello, I recently purchased this engraving laser and it came with the notoriously bad Chinese LaserDRW3 software alongside CorelLaser which have both been difficult to get used to. ![]()
